Why it is Important to Reduce Credit Card Debt
Did your parents have a credit card? If they were like most parents, you probably grew up seeing your parent whip out a credit card to pay for your school clothing or to purchase a new piece of electronics or something else. Credit cards have been around for a long time, and it may have seemed only natural when you finally became an adult to get one of your own. Remember how fun it was to be able to plunk your credit card down on the table to pay for something that you didn’t immediately have the cash for? While it may have been fun, it may not have been a good idea. It is extremely important to reduce credit card debt that you have, for a variety of reasons.
Your Debt
Credit card debt can add up extremely quickly. One moment you may find that you are ahead on your bills, and then, a few swipes of the card later, you may find that you owe out more money than you are earning. And even if you’re able to make the monthly payment every month, simply making the monthly payment on your credit card does not reduce credit card debt, and instead you will find that you will be paying for your credit card, and those one or two purchases, for a very, very long time.
Not paying the amount due every month can mean that you will get a bad credit score, and a bad credit score can seriously impact your future. Whenever you go to get something that requires credit, such as a vehicle or a mortgage loan, your credit score is looked at. If you have bad credit score, the company is not going to want to deal with you, or they will charge you higher interest rates. The better your credit score is, the more likely the company that you’re dealing with will be willing to work with you and to give you the loan that you want, which is why it is important to reduce credit card debt, so that you don’t have a very low credit score.
Your Health
Having tons of credit card debt can not only impact your credit score, it can also impact your heath! Studies have shown that people who have high credit card bills and who are unable to dig themselves out of their credit mess have increased stress, which can cause problems such as ulcers and heart attacks, and can lead to depression and anxiety problems. All of these issues make the world a much less fun place to live in.
A little bit of credit card debt is not a horrible thing. If you use your credit card responsibly, and pay it off within just a few months, it can be a benefit to your life. A great amount of credit card debt, however, can be detrimental not only to your credit score, but also to your very health.
