Worrying About Debt Problems Can Affect Your Health

Do you have a lot of debt? In today’s economy, many people have debt, even those who have never had to deal with personal debt before. Credit cards are very easy to get, and tons of other companies are offering deals where you can “buy now, pay later”, which, in reality, is a form of debt that you will owe to that company, and even if it’s not given to you in the form of a credit card, it is still money that is owed to the company. While dealing with personal debt can be annoying, did you realize that debt problems could also affect your health?

Physical

It may be surprising to you to learn that any type of stress can affect your health. We’re all able to handle a different amount of stress, and sometimes it’s possible to condition your body so that you can handle more stress. But eventually everybody reaches the “stress wall”, that place where your body has finally had enough stress and starts to break down on you. The most obvious effects of stress are generally an ulcer, or a heart attack. Ulcers can be extremely painful and may be life-threatening, if they are severe enough. In fact, one study showed that 27 percent of people who were dealing with serious debt problems had ulcers as related to their debt. And the heart can only take so much stress, which is why many people who have financial difficulties wind up having heart attacks.

Another problem can be muscle aches. You may wake up in the morning with your back sore, or your legs sore, or your shoulders sore, and you may wonder what you did the previous day to cause the aches. It may simply be that your body is trying to process the stress by putting it into a muscle or joint, which can make living and working a bit painful.

Emotional

If debt issues do one thing that is noticeable is that they affect the mind. When you’re constantly worrying about your debt, and how to get out of it, you may find that you’re extremely depressed. Depression can change your entire life, making you withdraw into yourself and not a fun person to be around. Almost a third of people who are in debt find that they are suffering from anxiety and severe depression, and it often takes awhile before they realize that their debt issues and their mental issues are related.

The only prescription to make you and your body feel better when you have debt problems is to get rid of your debt problems. Choosing to settle credit card debt is one way to help you to get your debt under control. It can take your debt and can reduce it until it is an amount that you can handle, getting rid of the financial stress in your life and making it easier for you to breathe, sometimes literally!
